External Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Investigative Responsibility and External Theft
    • Conducts investigations into suspected theft, fraud, or other criminal activities, involving external parties, in accordance with company policies, local laws, and regulations.
    • Conduct primarily remote and/or in-person surveillance of individuals suspected of external theft or fraud, leading to the identification and apprehension of those involved in external theft
    • Executes external theft operations when necessary to resolve investigations.
    • Conducts high-level audits to identify and investigate external theft.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships
    • Build and maintain effective relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners, internal Asset Protection partners, and Asset Protection partners from other retailers and organizations.
    • Partner with and educate the Asset Protection Field Team and store associates on external theft awareness and prevention.
    • Coordinate with Law Enforcement to present investigative findings, and facilitate the apprehension, and arrest of individuals involved in external theft.
    • Participate in law enforcement networking meetings, including attendance at Organized Retail Crime Association (ORCA) meetings, gather intelligence, and proactively address potential risks within the assigned area(s).
  • Technology and Data Analysis
    • Evaluates and prioritizes theft tips to determine the most impactful cases for investigation, ensuring efficient use of resources and maximizing benefit.
    • Effectively utilize all investigative tools (cameras, exception-based reporting systems, biometrics, open source intelligence, etc.) to identify & investigate theft trends to identify subjects in accordance with company policies, local laws, and federal guidelines.
    • Effectively develop strategies and communicate action plans to mitigate external theft trends with the broader Asset Protection team.
    • Investigates alerts and notifications from reporting systems provided by third-party entities.
  • Legal and Compliance
    • Ensure proper preparation, maintenance, and retention of all reports, evidence, files, and records by company guidelines and local jurisdiction requirements.
    • Testify in criminal proceedings when required and collaborate with law enforcement agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to support criminal investigations as needed.
    • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and legal requirements related to asset protection, security, and investigations.
    • Demonstrates exceptional confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive company matters.
  • Follows All Other Duties as Assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum age of 18 years old.
  • 1-3 years of leadership experience preferred.

  • Detail-oriented in all forms of communication.
  • Proficiency in multitasking and project management.
  • Collaborative spirit and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and OneNote. Ability to preserve the confidentiality of information.
  • Regular, timely attendance in compliance with the work schedule.

  • The Asset Protection Investigations Specialist is a full-time position. The position functions and hours may vary according to business needs.
