The Deli Buyer is responsible for driving sales and profitability for the Deli Department across all store locations. The Deli Buyer is accountable for achieving department sales, profit dollars and growth objectives through marketing strategies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as company subject matter expert for assigned departments, assumes the lead role in the selection and procurement of merchandise.
  • Develops merchandising programs through product selection, establishing product display standards and gross margins and sales.
  • Responsible for budgeting, forecasting and achieving weekly, quarterly and annual category sales goals, profit dollars and growth objectives.
  • Proofs ads and promotions with perishable team; compares weekly competition ads for pricing and content.
  • Creates and maintains a detailed marketing and item analysis to ensure optimum profit levels and achieve the Annual Operating Plan.
  • Develops key strategies in pricing to drive business sales, while analyzing market trends to drive new and existing items.
  • Develops a cost- mix model for utilizing sales reports/cutting test and in-bound product costs.
  • Manages and identifies potential suppliers and vendors while maintaining and building relationships; interviews and negotiates with vendors.
  • Learns, understands and utilizes market reports.
  • Prepares a category review and plan for respective categories.
  • Performs SKU rationalization of all categories.
  • Manages the departments overall profitability to ensure it aligns with annual operating plan and adjust as needed.
  • Encompasses perishable departments major buying and be involved with any and all contracts.
  • Manages, evaluates, mentors, trains and develops main office and store teams.
  • Examines, selects, orders and purchases at the most favorable price merchandise consistent with quality, quantity and specification requirements.
  • Regular, timely attendance in compliance with the work schedule, and adequate notice to find a replacement for occasional absences.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years’ experience in a buying position with a strong planning and merchandising background.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and train.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skill.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, quantitative analysis, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and coordination of resources.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Communicate information accurately and appropriately.
  • Ability to travel within the state of WI, of up to 20% of the time.
